Pediatric Chiropractic Specialist | Dr. David Adler has always recognized the vital role a chiropractor plays in the health of children, which is why he named his practice Adler Comprehensive Chiropractic when he opened its doors in Roswell, GA, 34 years ago. As a dedicated Pediatric Chiropractic Specialist, Dr. Adler has been committed to improving the well-being of children through chiropractic care. “If it were up to me, every patient of mine would bring their kids to have their spines checked,” Dr. Adler remarks. It’s a common sight to see many of his patients doing just that when you visit his clinic. Dr. Adler often shares his favorite saying with parents: “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.” This philosophy underscores the importance of early intervention in a child’s physical health, addressing issues before they become problematic as they grow.
Dr. Adler’s personal and professional life intersect in his practice; he administered his first chiropractic adjustments to his own children, Joshua and Amanda, when they were newborns. These adjustments set the foundation for their lifelong chiropractic care, illustrating the deep trust and belief Dr. Adler places in pediatric chiropractic careChiropractic Care. This same level of care and attention is what he offers to all his pediatric patients.

Before we can answer any questions, there are some terms you need to know. Dr. Adler specializes in the detection and correction of the “Vertebral Subluxation Complex.” Vertebral subluxation is a condition where spinal vertebrae are not in the correct alignment and create changes in the ability of the nervous system to communicate with the rest of the body clearly both from the brain to the body and the body back to the brain. This causes a less than optimal function and adaptability of the body.
Bumps, bruises, falls … It’s all a part of growing up. But it also contributes to minor injuries often disregarded in children. These minor injuries can – and do – cause misalignments in the spine. Things that are not even considered at your Pediatrician’s checkups. These misalignments in the spine – what we call subluxations – can lead to back pain, neck pain, headaches, and all sorts of other symptoms that will only get worse over time. Dr. Adler can quickly determine if your child needs to be adjusted. He has been working with children for over 28 years, and getting them in proper alignment will put them back on track for ideal development.
If you’ve been to the chiropractor before, you might think you know what an adjustment is. But the adjustments performed on children are a lot different. The younger and smaller the child, the lighter and more delicate the adjustment is. As Dr. Adler himself says, “The adjustments I perform on children are often done with nothing more than a fingertip.” He’s treated children as young as 2 days old, with great results.
The answer is simple: The birthing process, especially when assisted by the obstetrician, can be very traumatic to the newborn’s head and neck. Research has shown that conditions like SIDS, asthma, colic and ear infections are highly associated with this region of the spine.
“From birth, the spine can be out of position, and that child’s ability to grow with balance and symmetry is immediately thrown off. We see children with head tilt to the left or with rotation to the right, and it’s typical, but that doesn’t mean it’s normal. At every stage of development, from birth to crawling to walking, there are falls and tumbles that most people disregard because after some tears, you console them and everything seems ok. But it’s not. They can cause issues. There’s so much that chiropractic care can do for our children.” – Dr. David N. Adler
Our children are ever-changing, both physically and socially. Children rarely sit still, so the periodic re-exam and visit would help us keep track of any new and potentially harmful issues that may have arisen since their last visit. Another thing harming our children these days is the early introduction of cell phones and iPads, which are being shown to cause all sorts of issues with posture and neck pain.
